Major averages started the day flat but generally moved higher throughout the session, leading to modest gains by the close. Trading volume was low, however, as it is likely to be all week, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. As a reminder, markets will be closed Thursday, and Friday is a half day.
When all was said and done, the Industrials ended the day up 72 points to close at 23,430. The Transports shared in the gains, up 0.41%, as did the Nasdaq and S&P 500, which were up 0.12% and 0.13%, respectively. The small-cap Russell 2000 was the big winner, up 0.71%.
Global equity markets also gravitated higher, with all major markets in Europe in the green. This led to the Stoxx 600 rising 0.67% and the Europe Dow up 0.40%.
