Small Cap Stocks Marching Higher
Daily Recap
Stocks had a good day today worldwide, with the Global Dow up 0.6%. In the US, higher oil prices and a solid reading on the service sector sent shares firmly higher.
Crude oil saw yet another week of declining supplies, and West Texas crude climbed to nearly $50/bbl. as a result. An ISM report showed the services sector soaring from 51.4 to 57.1. Stocks responded strongly, with energy and financial services leading the pack.
Bonds were lower, in anticipation of a rate increase with all this positive information. Today, anyway. The US dollar was up marginally.
Precious metals couldn't hold on to a rally, and again finished lower; gold lost $2, silver a cent, and platinum $1. XAU gained half a point.
At the close, the Dow was up 112, S&P up 9 and the NASDAQ rose 26 points.
