Equity markets varied in their last day of the week’s trading.  Asian and all American markets were solidly higher, while European exchanges were almost all lower.  In the US, it was about new all-time highs, brought to us this time by good news on the earnings front.

The Asia Dow was up 0.66%, with only Indian shares closing lower, and only modestly lower at that – down 0.05%.  In Europe, the STOXX 600 somehow gained 0.18%, when stock indices in the UK, Germany, Italy, France, and Spain were all lower.  Go figure!  All four major, non-US exchanges in the Americas – Canada, Brazil, Mexico, and Chile – were higher, as were US stock indices. 

 

Government bonds were up virtually everywhere.  In the US, the 30-year bond gained 3/32, as the 10-year surprisingly gained more – up 7/32 to yield 2.323%.  The euro and the pound were higher against the dollar, as the US dollar index fell 0.65% to 95.13
