What On Earth is China Attempting to Do?
Stocks are again uncertain today. In the US, the Dow Industrials were down most of the day, but not that much. Both the NASDAQ and the S&P 500 are hanging around just a couple of hairs' breadth below their all-time highs. Small-caps inched above their all-time highs. So there's up, down, and sideways, with little conviction in all cases.
Overseas markets were kind of on the same page. The Asia Dow lost 0.09% despite big gains in Chinese shares. The STOXX 600 gained 0.09%, despite moderate losses in the UK and Italy. Latin American shares are moderately lower, but Canadian shares are moderately higher. Something for everyone!.
The dollar strengthened throughout the day, which took away the precious metals' early zest. Gold, up several bucks earlier, finished with a $2 loss.
