Stocks rose overnight in Asia, as they gained encouragement from higher oil and copper prices - which recently hit 4-year highs.  The S. Korean Kospi index led the others higher with its second day of big gains; the Asia Dow ended up gaining 0.33%.  European share prices weren't as healthy, and the STOXX 600 fell 0.26%

US shares traded higher all day in light trading, with technology and financial companies in the lead.  The Dow Industrials ended the day up 63 points or 0.26%, the S&P 500 up 5 or 0.18%, with the NASDAQ rising by 11 points or 0.16%.  Small-caps and the Dow Transportation Average went in the other direction most of the day, but the former group rallied sharply towards the close to finish up a goodly amount.  On the NYSE, 1,934 stocks finished higher, while 1,008 were lower on the day.
