Equities started the day mixed in Asia, but by the time European exchanges opened a funk started spreading and prices started falling.  The Asia Dow rose 0.44%, but then the Europe Dow fell 0.42% and the STOXX 600 lost 0.59%.  Every major European exchange finished solidly in the red. And then US markets opened...

About unchanged initially, the bears gradually gained steam on worries about an isolated and ineffective President following his comments on Charlottesville.  Stocks had all along been counting on a big, favorable tax package, but now many are worried if and when that will ever come.  The possible departure of Gary Cohn from the White House team added to concerns about relations between the President, business, and Congress.

The end result was sharply lower stock prices across the board.  The Dow Industrials were down 274 points or 1.24%, the Transports gave up 225 points or 2.4%, the S&P 500 ... Log in or subscribe to continue reading.
