Today marked the end of the first calendar quarter of 2017, which brought a number of interesting moves.  Perhaps the most notable was the NASDAQ, up 28 of the past 40 trading days. But it was also the least volatile quarter in years, the strongest for the S&P 500 since 2015, and added to the Dow Industrials gains over the last 6 quarters - up 4,400 points! Gold finished up for the quarter, though down for the month, but up for the last day; good or bad, take your choice!

Bonds rallied a bit today also, taking the 10-year note's yield to it's lowest number in a month: 2.397%.  The dollar was unchanged, and oil added another 34 cents to close at $50.69.

Precious metals steadily gained through the day. Gold finished up $5, silver up 9 cents, and platinum was unchanged. XAU fought the general weakness in stocks, and rose 64 ... Log in or subscribe to continue reading.
