Daily Recap

Most markets were higher most of the day today, with some noteworthy achievements. Asian equities were up minor amounts, yet European shares were up an average of nearly 1% to finish their third week up in a row. In the US, stocks were higher throughout the day, with energy and emerging markets shares notably strong again. As were the precious metals. 


Stronger oil prices and the increasing sense that maybe the worst is over there can claim much of the credit. Crude finished well above $35 in the US futures market. In the US, the addition of 240,000 new jobs didn’t hurt either. By the close, oil and precious metals mining shares gave back much of their earlier, hefty gains. But they’ve made their case: They are market sectors to be reckoned with these days.
