It's been a while since we saw the Dow rise in excess of 300 points in a single day, but that's what happened today. After opening in the green, stocks held their gains all day and finished near their highs. Against the backdrop of ongoing trade disputes, investors focused their attention on last Friday's strong jobs report, as well as the prospect of a good earnings season.
At the close, the Industrials were up 320 points or 1.31%, to 24,776. The Transports saw the Industrials and raised them, adding 2.04%, while the Nasdaq and S&P 500 split the pot, each rising 0.88%. The S&P small-cap index rose 0.70%, and the VIX fell 5% to close at 12.69.
The U.S. really just took the baton from international markets, which had their own banner days. All major exchanges across Europe, Asia and the Americas were in the green. This left the Stoxx 600 up 0.58%, the Asia ... Log in or subscribe to continue reading.
