No Need to Fear Rising Rates
It was another mixed-up day today, with little to drive markets up or down much. The world watches President Trump in China, where he is expected to get great respect and further business ties, but not much on N. Korea or a big trade deal. Domestically, eyes are also on Congress as they hash out compromises on tax reform. Meanwhile – mostly quiet in the markets.
Hong Kong, Japanese, and Indian exchanges were moderately lower, while Australian, Shanghai, and Korean shares were mostly higher. The Asia Dow sort of split the difference, finishing up 0.10%. In Europe, Italian shares were the big movers – down 0.57%. Other markets were mixed, as the STOXX 600 lost 0.05%. In the Americas, Brazil's market was the big winner – up 2.6% today in a reversal of yesterday's 2.5% loss. That would be like the Dow Industrials down 600 points one day, ...
