With no major economic data hitting the wires today, stocks were left to respond to ongoing earnings reports, which continue to come in favorably. Those strong reports helped major averages grind higher throughout the session, closing near their highs.
When all was said and done, the Industrials were up 39 points or 0.16%, with the Transports up 0.58%. The S&P 500 rose 0.35%, while the Nasdaq climbed 0.61% and Small Caps rose 0.75%. Breadth was positive on the day with both advancing issues and shares outpacing decliners.
The story overseas was not as bullish, as all major markets in Europe lost ground except for the UK. The net result there was a 0.13% decline in the Stoxx 600 and a 0.37% decline in the Europe Dow. Over in Asia things were greener, with only the Shanghai Composite and Nikkei losing ground. The Asia Dow rallied 0.58%, with the Global Dow essentially flat on the ...
