Following several days of brutal swings in the markets, today represented something a bit mellower. Still correcting from the recent over-correction to the market's mad rush to the sky, stocks again traded in the plus column - until the day's final minutes.
The Dow Industrials, up a couple hundred points or more for most of the day, totally caved in towards the close - actually down 19 points. The S&P 500 and especially the NASDAQ, weaker all day long, closed down 64 points (0.9%) and 13 points (0.5%), respectively. NYSE winners hung onto the victory over losers, 1,555 to 1,435. It was a very disappointing close, likely pointing to a weak opening tomorrow. But we'll see.
The Asia Dow finished with a small 0.10% loss, mostly due to a big fall in Shanghai stock prices. In Europe, it was a different and more US-like story, the STOXX 600 gaining a hefty 1.97% ... Log in or subscribe to continue reading.
