Daily Recap

Following yesterday's rout in equities, markets got it together and staged a solid rebound, led once again by tech stocks.  The Dow rose over 100 points, the S&P 14 points and the NASDAQ 50 big ones by mid-session.

Both Asian and European markets fell in the aftermath of Wednesday's big declines in the US.  The STOXX 600 fell half a percent.

Bonds were quiet, their yields about unchanged from yesterday.  But the dollar rallied higher along with equities, buoyed also by hawkish comments from the Fed.  The dollar index was up 0.33 to 97.83

Precious metals gave back much of their recent gains.  Gold fell $12, silver 28 cents, and platinum $13.  XAU declined as well, down 2 1/2% to 84.25.

By the close, stocks eased back a bit as the Dow finished only 56 points higher; the S&P was up 9. The NASDAQ held onto its gains better, up 44 points.
