Stocks took a break today, after yesterday's record-breaking session. The Dow Industrials, leading stocks on the upside lately, briefly traded above the 23,000 level. But overall, stocks were lower in the US, with 1,261 NYSE issues finishing higher compared to 1,657 closing lower on the day.
Overseas, stocks were mostly lower and the Global Dow finished down 0.21%. In the Pacific region, Australia was the strongest, up 0.73%; the Asia Dow finished 0.19% lower, however. Virtually all major European exchanges were lower, leading the STOXX 600 to close down 0.25%. Outside of the US, major American markets were a wash - two up and two down.
Fixed income markets were a bit higher overall. In the US, the 10-year was unchanged, but the 30-year gained 11/32. Their yields were down to 2.30% and 2.808%, respectively. The US dollar index had a modest increase, finishing at 93.52, up 0.24%.
