Markets were generally in rebound mode today. The Asia Dow rose a quarter of a percent, and the STOXX 600 gained 0.55%. US shares were widely higher, as the Dow Industrials briefly hit new intraday highs. Investors were somewhat reluctant to push prices too much, as Attorney General Sessions was testifying in front of the Senate.
In FOREX trading, the pound rose against the US dollar. The dollar index retreated, down 0.2% today. Bonds were quiet in front of a two-day Fed meeting that is almost unanimously expected to yield an interest rate hike. The 10-year note was essentially unchanged, its yield at 2.209%.
Precious metals were again mostly lower. Gold finished about unchanged, while silver fell 9 cents and platinum fell $16. XAU followed the stock market higher, up nearly 1% to $84.18.
