The strange, wild and wooly atmosphere of the current times both interests and bothers me.
Back in the early 1930s, people were fascinated with horror stories. You could see it in the movies that were popular at the time -- King Kong, Frankenstein, Dracula, The Bat Whispers, The Blue Angel. People in those days were all too willing to accept fear and horror stories.
I've talked about the brochures and pamphlets I'm currently receiving in the mail. I've been in the advisory business for well over half a century, and I think I've known or read about everybody in this business. But lately I've received multi-page full-color, illustrated brochures by "advisors" I've never heard of. Printing and mailing these brochures is an expensive undertaking. Somebody who's an excellent writer is selling these so-called advisors a bill of goods on how to make a killing with lengthy, well-written brochures. But what interests me is ...
