Ray Klein: An American in Japan Reflects on Entrepreneurship and Life


Ray was born in suburban New York in 1963. His father was a career employee of General Electric, who was laid off just shy of 25 years with GE, and tried a few other occupations before settling into a second career in real estate. During the time his dad was considering manufacturing some products, he took 16-year-old Ray with him on a trip to Japan as he sought business contacts. Ray found Japan to be completely foreign to anything he had ever known, and never dreamed he would end up living there!


Ray earned a BS in computer science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and an MS in computer science from Michigan State. He worked for a couple of years as a software engineer, but never felt it was his calling.
