Daily Recap

Stocks began the day in the green but the upward momentum fizzled as the day went on. It seems no one wants to make any big moves ahead of this week's important central bank meetings.

The Industrials ended the day down 3 points while the Transports and utilities were modestly higher. The S&P 500 was dead flat, while the Nasdaq gave up some of its recent gains.

Treasuries sold off a bit, leaving the 10-year note at 1.71%. The dollar made a big move higher on Friday and gave some of that back today.

In precious metals markets gold gained $7, silver gained 43 cents, and platinum was up $6. Miners were slightly positive, with XAU up 0.85% on the day.

The only major economic release today was the Home builders' index, which came in above expectations.
