Today was absent any big news stories, apart from the Egypt Air tragedy. European stocks followed Asian markets higher, with major markets there up about 1.5% on average. Worldwide, stocks were up 0.67% as gauged by the Global Dow index. US stocks were game, trading moderately higher all day, led by the NASDAQ and the Transportation Average, both up about 1 percent.
Modest over-supply problems in the energy sector helped crude oil finish higher on the week, despite a 40 cent decline today. The US dollar, like interest rates, registered almost no change today from yesterday's values.
Precious metals were muted today also, after a pretty raucous week. Rolling into the close, gold is down $3, silver is up 3 cents, and platinum is up $7. The miners, based on XAU, have been down all day, but are rallying into the close.
