Daily Recap

Chinese stocks were lower overall today, while other Asian and European markets finished mixed. Most people have other things on their minds today and so trading volume is even lighter than it was earlier in the week.

Energy prices added to yesterday's gains, up another $1 or so per barrel.  Gold, silver and the mining shares are up modestly today, allowing hope of a year-end rally to continue. 

US stocks, like their overseas brethren, just don't really care at this time and look to finish mixed on the day.  For the week, however, most US indices were up a respectable 2% or more.  Let's keep in mind that strength here and in the metals is occurring within the context of light and therefore less reliable trading this week.
