US stock prices pulled a fast one by rallying in the final minutes to finish higher on the day. The Dow Industrials, down about 50 points most of day, closed up 11 points, new highs for the umpteenth day. The S&P rose 4 and the NASDAQ gained 9 points.
World markets had been lower, with the NIKKEI, FTSE, and German DAX all falling. Declines also came in the oil market, down 0.7% and in bond yields. The 10-year note fell to 2.312%, its lowest yield in weeks.
Precious metals had another good day. Gold rose $7, silver 16 cents, and platinum $17, despite a higher dollar. XAU wasn't feeling the love, however, and dropped a full point.
