Daily Recap

US shares flopped around Wednesday, with little conviction except for the NASDAQ, which was markedly stronger throughout the day.  In the end, the Dow lost 69 points, the S&P fell 5 points, but the NASDAQ held onto a 4 point gain.

Other world markets were similarly unconvincing.  Asian exchanges lost a little ground, and European shares were mixed and virtually unchanged.

Bonds were lower again, pushing the 30-year Treasury up to a 3.15% yield.  The US dollar liked that, and rose 0.31 points to 102.09.

The precious metals were again unhappy campers, as was crude oil.  Based on a rise in US supplies, oil slipped to its 2017 lows.  For its part, gold declined for the seventh day in a row, down $7 to $1209.  Silver lost 25 cents and platinum ended the day at minus $14. XAU fell 0.7%.
