The upward momentum in stocks continued today with most averages posting modest gains. The technology sector led the way higher, making up for losses in energy. Positive earnings results from key companies including Amazon and Google after the bell have stock futures in the green.
At the close, the Industrials were 6 points higher, while the Transports gained 0.29% and the Nasdaq climbed 0.39%. The S&P 500 also rose, but by a miniscule 0.06%. Earlier in the day, European stock markets fell, with the Stoxx 600 down a quarter percent. Asia was mixed, resulting in the Asia Dow being essentially unchanged.
Fixed income markets were also mixed, with the 10-year note heading higher while the 30-year fell slightly. The yield on the10-year note is currently 2.3%. The dollar posted its second day of gains, up just 0.09%, leaving the dollar index at 99.01.
