It was basically more of the same today; US stock prices rose based on good earnings reports and overall optimism that allows investors to ignore any bad news. Oh – and new all-time highs on the Dow once again. In a remarkable display of bullishness, today every single world market shown on the WSJ's internet recap page was in the green – amazing! The Asia Dow was up 0.49%, the STOXX 600 rose by 0.64%, and all four major Western Hemisphere markets (besides the US) were solidly in the green.
In the US, good earnings reports from Boeing (BA) and our recommended Chevron (CVX) set the tone, even as investors shrugged off mediocre economic data. Apple will announce earnings after the close, and optimism rules there as well, with the stock (AAPL) up 1%.
