After a couple of weeks of excitement, markets have settled down a bit. Stocks in Asia and Europe were mixed today, the STOXX600 up a mere 0.09% In the US, stocks were higher all day. The Dow Industrials finished up 26, the S&P added 3, and the NASDAQ rose 11 points.
Things worrying the markets today were lower oil prices (crude down almost $2/bb.) and what OPEC would decide at their upcoming meeting in Vienna. Good news included GDP growth, up a bit to 3.2%, and home sales, up 5%. Consumer confidence was also up to 107.1, quite a bit higher than anticipated. The dollar fell slightly, finishing just under 101 even. Bonds were up slightly, yield on the 10 year Note rising to 2.304%.
Precious metals were mixed, with gold down $6 and silver up a nickel. Platinum gained $6 and XAU was down 1% on the day.
