One word describes the situation in Europe and the US -- GRIDLOCK. In Europe, Greece is asking Angela Merkel for more time, and Angela is fast getting fed up with it. The talk is that Greece can't survive if she is kicked out of the eurozone, and that may well be true. Latest rumor is that Greece may put up some of her gorgeous islands for sale -- Buffett might buy one for a hideout. But behind Greece lies a much larger and more significant problem -- Spain.
Here in the US, both presidential candidates are spending their time trying to convince the nation, through speeches and advertising, why their opponent is unfit to be president. The talk is that we might well go over the "fiscal cliff," and we will survive the fall off the cliff and live to argue about it. Latest polls show Obama slightly ahead.
