A lot is written each day about the markets and whether they are going up or down. Much of this is dribble, since the great majority of commentators don't have any idea as to whether a specific market is going up, sideways or down. I've been following various advisors (it's part of my fascination with this whole industry) for 65 years, and my conclusion is that very few advisers "get it right" even half the time. The other half they just get it wrong.
In fact I developed a thesis that runs about like this -- "Watch the advisor who's been wrong for a long time. He's about to be right. And watch the advisor who's been right over a reasonable period of time. He's about to be terribly wrong." And that's not just cynicism, that's the way it usually goes.
