I’m a pretty smart guy. Magna cum laude from a top business school, full VP at a major brokerage firm by the age of 27, in the top 1% on standardized tests. That’s part of the hubris thing I wrote about 2 weeks ago. But what about all the millions of people who graduated summa cum laude, were multi-millionaires by 27, or who are in the top ½% in terms of IQ? I’m guessing that a few thousand of those are in the investments business. That’s the humility side of my equation, and one reason I don’t pretend to be smarter than the market and tell it what it should or should not be doing.
