Partnerships, Trade and Currencies

by Jon S. Strebler

German Chancellor Angela Merkel shocked many by stating what may be inevitable anyway: The US may no longer be a reliable partner in light of the Trump administration’s new tendencies in terms of trade and military cooperation. If the US wants to do what’s best for America, regardless of the impact on its erstwhile allies, then obviously Europe (of which Merkel is seen as the de facto leader) may have little choice but to adopt a similar mentality.

Making America Great Again

By Jon S. Strebler

Every so often, the sciences challenge conventional wisdom about when America was first settled or visited by humans, with the most recent example coming virtually from my own backyard. Last month paleontologists with the San Diego Natural History Museum presented evidence that a local mastodon was butchered by humans some 130,000 years ago, more than 100,000 years before humans were thought to have been in North America. Divergence Danger

by Jon S. Strebler

Major market turns are often signaled by divergences in key indices.  That could be the Dow Jones Industrial Average heading higher, while the Transportation Average refuses to follow (or vice versa); the S&P 500 making new highs while the NASDAQ Composite is stuck going sideways; the NYSE’s Advance/Decline (A/D) line going one way, our Primary Trend Indicator (PTI) going another.  These non-confirmations tell us that the big trend, be it up or down, is starting to frazzle and on the verge of ending.  Or it could mean nothing at all.
