The piece I wrote on truth seems to have set off a storm of letters. Obviously, a lot of my subscribers are interested in the truth and the reason for telling (or avoiding) the truth. So I want to write a bit more on truth (which happens to be one of my favorite subjects).

 

I think it's not only morally right to stick with the truth, I believe it's necessary for your health to stay with the truth. I previously wrote that there is a close relationship between untruth (lies) and insanity. For just as a lie is a distortion of reality, a disease is a distortion of the physical.

I want to stress one point about Dow Theory, and the original works of Charles Dow. Dow was originally a financial reporter. Later Dow owned a seat on the NYSE.

 

With this unusual background, Charles Dow was well grounded in both corporate fundamentals and market psychology. But most important of all, Dow was a student of values.

This week the Dow Jones Transportation Average hit a new 11 month high. This was a bullish sign and a big deal. Why?

 

As you know, the Dow Transportations has been lagging behind the Dow Industrials, the PTI and the other stock indexes. Following the bear market in 2015, they've mostly been bullish, surging higher, but the Transports didn't join the party. This has been bothering us and signaling caution.
